Juicin' Like A Fiend

Apparently, I just can't get enough juice these days as I've been drinking at least two juices a day! As my friend Katlin so wisely commented, my Breville centrifugal juicer has indeed become my new favorite toy!

Because it's so fun (and yummy), I thought I'd do a post about some of the juices I've drank in the last two days. They might look a bit nasty, but they taste great. In a few days I'll do a post on the benefits of juicing and why it is better than blending your fruits and veggies. But for now, humor me and enjoy the pictures cataloguing my newest obsession.

Power Juice:

-3 stalks celery
-1 carrot
-1 green apple
-1 broccoli stalk
-1 zucchini
-lemon juice

Comment:
What a powerfully rich and healthy juice! Zucchini, a sadly unappreciated, oft ignored vegetable, is super high in potassium, Vitamin B and C, and calcium. It's also a great thirst quencher and its juice has been drunk for this purpose in tons of cultures worldwide for centuries. Carrots are high in antioxidants and Vitamin A as is celery (which is also high in Vitamin B). Apples are great sources of antioxidants and flavenoids which are important for a healthy heart and heart disease prevention. And lastly, broccoli. Broccoli, which is sometimes called a 'miracle food', is high in Vitamin C, folic acid, potassium, and is known to prevent a number of diseases such as lung cancer, diabetes, tumors, Alzheimer's, stomach and colon cancer, heart disease, and arthritis.

Alchemy Juice Bar Juice:

-Beet
-Carrot
-Orange
-Lemon juice

Comment:
A very strong, heady juice. In fact, it was so strong that I wasn't able to finish it. This is more of a juice for a juice fast or meal replacement, not a simple refreshment type juice.

Green Machine:

-1/2 bunch kale
-1 green apple
-1 cucumber
-3 stalks celery
-lemon juice
-1/2 red pepper

Comment:
This juice was a bit tricky to make because unfortunately my juicer sucks at juicing kale. So, I blended the kale and then added it to the juice which explains why there are pulpy pieces of kale in the shake. This drink was good, but surprisingly a bit tasteless. If I wasn't sticking to the green theme, I would have added a carrot for added taste.

Sunshine Juice:

-6 carrots
-6 stalks celery
-1 zucchini
-1/2 orange
-lemon juice to taste
-1 broccoli stalk
-pinch of ginger spice

Comment:
So incredibly refreshing and energizing! Zucchini is a great vegetable for energy and mental stimulation and the carrots are packed with antioxidants, Vitamin A, and carotenoids! Yum.

  1. Latest 'favorite' Juice that I invented yesterday:

(so far, this is one of the yummiest juices i've drank)

    -1 bunch kale
    -small handful of cilantro
    -1 small red pepper
    -2 stalks celery
    -1/3 green apple
    -lemon

    Note:
In order to get the most 'juice' out of your kale and cilantro (aka leafy greens), juice them at the same time as you do a watery vegetable, such as celery, cucumber, zucchini, or pepper. Then, catch the pulp, get it wet with water, and run it through your juicer again. You can do this as much as three times. It's amazing how much juice comes out!
